Chaos at BLAST Slam I: The Lobby Remake Incident Between OG & Falcons

BLAST Slam I 2024, hosted in Copenhagen, Denmark, is in full swing as the world's top teams battle for glory and a slice of the million-dollar prize pool. Among the most popular matches was a heated best-of-three (BO3) clash between OG and Team Falcons, which took place in the Lower Bracket.

It was a do-or-die series for both as the loser would face brutal elimination. But none of the teams - nor the audience - expected a controversial end to it all.

The OG vs Team Falcons series began with an impressive win from OG, the underdog of the series. But Falcons pulled out their best cards to grab a win the next one, evening out the series. The BO3 is extended to a third and final match with both teams scoring a win. But it just had to be during the third match, and in the heat of the moment, that Dota 2 crashed.

A Server Crash Results in An Inevitable Remake

The deciding third match turned into a marathon, lasting over 80 minutes and testing the limits of both teams. OG appeared to be in a favorable position, destroying more barracks, and maintaining greater map control. Team Falcons, on the other hand, held a significant gold lead, keeping their hopes alive for a comeback.

As tension peaked and fans eagerly awaited the final moments, disaster struck: the server hosting the game crashed. Players, casters, and spectators alike were left stunned as the game ground to a halt.

Despite the best efforts of tournament organizers, the server issue proved irreparable. After an agonizing one-hour pause, the decision was made to remake the game. The rules mandated that the rematch begin with the same drafts and starting items, resetting the game to its initial state.

The remake sparked immediate controversy. Many argued that OG had the upper hand before the server failure and that the reset erased their advantage. Despite the heated debate, the remade game proceeded, with Team Falcons adapting quickly to secure the win. Their triumph not only eliminated OG but allowed Falcons to advance to Round 2.

OG Eliminated in Last Place

After the shocking loss, OG departed Blast Slam I in bottom place alongside Team Spirit. The team placed 9th-10th and brings home $30,000. In the meantime, Team Falcons advances to play against Gaimin Gladiators.

BLAST Slam I will play out its compact format for the next few days, ending on December 1st. The champion will pocket a massive portion of $400,000 from the prize pool.
