Dota 2's trashtalking culture has evolved over time with tipping, chatwheels, and more recently, all-chats, turning more common in the competitive scene. But it seems like the community has had enough following back-to-back trashtalk drama involving Team Falcons' Ammar "ATF" Al-Assaf.
The offlaner's name has taken over Reddit with multiple trashtalking cases, including reactions from other players that sparked a wave of discussions. We summarize the story below.
ATF trashtalks kiyotaka with physical threats
In a recent pub match, ATF was entangled in a heated trashtalk against Gleb "kiyotaka" Zyryanov, the current midlaner for BetBoom Team. Their exchange escalated from insults to physical threats., which occured as follows:
kiyotaka: -with fat fingers that missclick buttons
ATF: what buttons did I misclick? hello?? 40-kilogram trash I'll break your face in real life
kiyotaka: good luck tomorrow
The conversation quickly made rounds on Reddit and it's clear that most people find ATF's comments unacceptable.
Words don't usually weigh as much in public matches, but ATF has drawn heavy attention to himself as he displayed more and more toxic behavior in not only pub games but also competitive ones. While on this topic, ATF also recently trashtalked in a competitive setting.
A distasteful all-chat against Xtreme Gaming's Ame
During the ongoing DreamLeague Season 24, Team Falcons played against Xtreme Gaming for points in the Group Stage 2. The series went to a third game which snowballed into the hands of Falcons.
During the final moments before a GG call, ATF tipped carry player Ame, and all-chatted "bot". This bad-manner chat quickly spiraled on Reddit with a viral post stating, "enough is enough".
Many fans believed that trashtalking may be acceptable to win the mental warfare. But doing so when the enemy was on the brink of loss was distasteful. A Reddit user commented: "Only thing worse than a sore loser is a sore winner."
ATF apologizes, Aui_2000 responds
Following the backlash against ATF's pub threats against kiyotaka, the young Jordanian took to X/Twitter to apologize. He stated that he and kiyotaka often troll each other during ranked games and that he knew it was a joke. But he acknowledged how the comments could leave a sour taste and said: "I understand this types of jokes are not good at all so my bad everyone."
It hasn't been long since Aui_2000 made a lengthy remark to address the trashtalk and bad-manner (bm) that has been consistently occurring within Team Falcons. Now the TI-winning coach had to come forth to make another statement: "-there's not a place for this language in the scene. My apologies for this happening it's not good."
DreamLeague Season 24 is still unfolding and Team Falcons will continue their journey to grab their next trophy. Despite the continuous drama involving its players, Falcons has proven its dominance in terms of Dota 2. The team has just won the BetBoom Dacha Belgrade and is the heavy favorite to win this million-dollar LAN.
