The Crownfall Act IV introduced many more mini-games for the vast Dota 2 community to enjoy. On the overworld map of the fourth chapter, three quests for the respective main characters of the story - Skywrath Mage, Vengeful Spirit, and Kez - are laid out. Each path fields its mini-games to play and in this guide, we will highlight the Castle Carnage.
Castle Carnage is one of the earliest mini games you can unlock in Dota 2 Crownfall Act IV. It is located on Vengeful Spirit's quest (middle path) on the fifth node.
Castle Carnage hands you the task of breaking through enemy fortification and removing all the guarding enemies. And if you know anything about Angry Birds, this game would be a walk in the park for you!
How to Play Castle Carnage in Crownfall Act IV
In Castle Carnage, you control Snapfire's aim and select your preferred ammo to hit the enemies. There are nine different fortification levels, and it gets increasingly difficult per level. You will earn 1-3 stars in each level based on your performance. The lesser ammo you use the higher stars you can achieve.
The controls for Castle Carnage is very simple. Use the WASD set or the arrows set to aim your shot. Snapfire's aim can only go up or down. To shoot, press the spacebar. To shoot at a further range, you need to charge your shot by holding down the spacebar before letting go.
The Different Types of Ammo
In Castle Carnage, you begin the first level with one type of ammo. But as you head to the next levels, you'll have the option to use more unique ammos with their respective pros and cons.
- Mortimer Kisses - Explodes on impact
- Grenade - Bounces before exploding
- Tunneler - Digs straight down after hitting terrain. Doesn't directly damage enemies.
- Dropkick Missile - Charge up and release to fire, then press fire again to shoot the missile straight down.
Tips and tricks for Castle Carnage
The key to acing this mini-game is firstly mastering your aim and using the right ammo. Aiming requires a lot of trial and error. If your current aim misses your target by a bit, reset and change your aim just slightly to hit the mark.
Using the right ammo is just as important. The first ammo, the Mortimer Kisses is easy to use. It has a speedy projectile and blasts on impact, immediately killing enemies on the spot. The only downside to this ammo is it's not flexible. Use this ammo only when the enemies can be directly hit and have no obstacles above to protect it.
The next ammo is the Grenade. This is a fun one to use, but you need to time well. It will bounce on impact and take about 3 seconds to explode. As it bounces and is very flexible, you should use this ammo to go to difficult spaces.
For example, on Level 9, a creep stands below Snapfire's shooting range, making it impossible for normal ammo to go through. Use the Grenade and shoot it on the ground, making it bounce up to creep.
The Tunneler ammo is designated to make holes in structures. It can tunnel down about 3 levels but the catch to this ammo is, it will not eliminate enemies. Use the Tunneler only when your enemies are protected under a roof. This makes a large enough hole for your other ammos to go through.
Last but not least, the Dropkick Missile. This is a tricky ammo to use as it requires you to aim twice. After the first shot, the ammo will fly above and you can press shoot one more time to send it flying down immediately. Using this ammo requires precision so make sure to time and aim correctly for the second shot.
That sums up our guide for Castle Carnage in Crownfall Act IV! Stay tuned for more.
