What does the CS2 weapons look like in real life?

Counter-Strike developers never aimed to make the game as realistic as possible. Nevertheless, Valve always pays close attention to the visual appearance and sound of weapons. In CS2, there is no fictional weaponry, and even if it has a unique name, in real life, there is definitely an analogue. In this article, we will talk about popular weapons from CS2 and their real-life counterparts.

USP-S

In real life, the pistol is called Heckler & Koch USP. In CS 1.6, it was the standard pistol for defence players. In CS:GO, developers added a silencer that could be removed if desired. In CS2, the pistol has not undergone any changes. The USP-S is known for its high accuracy.

The Heckler & Koch USP was adopted by Germany in 1993. After that, it became one of the most recognisable pistols in history. It is known for its numerous modifications: reducing size, increasing magazine capacity, extending the barrel with a slide, and adding a silencer. Today, the Heckler & Koch USP is used by police and special forces in Germany, France, Denmark, Italy, Poland, Ukraine, and other countries. Despite its size, the pistol is considered one of the best in the world due to its reliability and accuracy—just like in CS2.

Glock-18

The attacking side pistol in CS2 is significantly different from the USP-S. The Glock-18 has lower damage, but its magazine holds 20 rounds, making it very effective at close range. Additionally, this pistol has two firing modes—semi-automatic and automatic. In the first case, it fires three rounds at once but significantly decreases accuracy.

In real life, the Glock-18 is as compact as in the game. The pistol was manufactured in Austria in 1989 and was intended for police use, requiring rapid-fire weapons. The Glock-18 did not gain sufficient popularity, as its automatic fire was considered ineffective.

AK-47

The Kalashnikov rifle is the most popular weapon in all versions of Counter-Strike. The "Kalash" has high accuracy at any distance, enormous damage, and kills with a single headshot.

In real life, the rifle is equally popular as in the game. It is the most widespread weapon in the world. Over the last 60 years, more than 70 million units have been produced. The characteristics of the AK-47 in real life are almost the same as in CS2: 30 rounds, high armour penetration, and high rate of fire. In CS2, due to the similarity of the barrel, the rifle more closely resembles another version of the "Kalash" — the AKM.

M4A1-S

The M4A1-S is the main weapon for the defensive side in CS2. Players prefer this rifle because of its high accuracy and easy spray control. It is constantly subjected to changes: reducing the number of rounds in the magazine, reducing the fire rate, and increasing recoil. Nevertheless, it remains very popular.

There is no such weapon in real life. When creating the M4A1-S, developers were inspired by the M16 rifle. It was developed in the USA in the 1960s. Since the rifle in CS2 is used with a silencer, it would resemble the M16A1 modification. In the new version, a silencer was added, the magazine was improved, and the flash suppressor was enhanced.

The M16 reached its peak popularity during the Vietnam War. It was then that its first drawbacks were revealed, including low reliability. The initial versions of the rifle were supplied to the military without proper cleaning instructions, leading to frequent malfunctions and jamming. This problem was only solved in subsequent M16 modifications.

AWP

The AWP is the most powerful weapon in CS2, capable of killing an opponent with a single shot to the body. High damage is accompanied by certain drawbacks: slow player movement speed, long reload time, and the need to cock the bolt after each shot.

In real life, this sniper rifle is called the Accuracy International Arctic Warfare. It was developed in the UK and has been used in several armed conflicts. Interestingly, despite all its dangers, it can be sold as a sports weapon. The estimated price of the Accuracy International Arctic Warfare is $20,000.

The main difference from the CS2 version is the magazine, which holds ten rounds. Also, the rifle is equipped with an optical sight and painted in a dark green colour. Today, it is used by special units worldwide.

Desert Eagle

Closing our list is the most powerful pistol in CS2 — the Desert Eagle. A headshot from this pistol will kill even a helmeted player. Thanks to the Counter-Strike series, it gained worldwide fame and became the most recognisable pistol in the world.

In the game, the Desert Eagle is used in combat, while in real life, it is mainly used for hunting or sports competitions. The pistol has large dimensions and high recoil, making its use by the military or police ineffective. However, it is just as long-range and accurate as in CS2.

Similar parallels can be drawn with other weapons in CS2. So the game, which never pursued realism, is much more realistic than you might have thought.
