CS2 Ranking System Explained: Map-Based Strategies & Tips

Counter-Strike 2 has long been available to everyone interested, but not everyone has managed to understand how the ranking and rating systems work. After all, the competitive system in CS2 has been reworked. In this article, we will explain the CS2 ranking and rating algorithm, as well as additional nuances that you need to know.

How do the ranking and rating systems work in CS2?

When it comes to the competitive mode, some players prefer to play on a specific map they like instead of participating in map voting. This can be due to various reasons, for example, you may not like the map's design or you may not be familiar enough with it.

Based on the results of matches, each map in CS2 competitive mode receives its own rank. This means that if you, for example, are a fan of the Inferno map and have reached the Global Elite rank on it, and then start playing on Dust 2, which is not so attractive to you, your rank on this map will be minimal. To get a rank on a specific map, players need to play ten matches on it for calibration. In competitive mode, there are a total of 18 ranks, starting from Silver and ending with Global Elite.

Ranks in CS2

The competitive mode in Counter-Strike 2 is similar to CS:GO and uses the same MMR (Matchmaking Rating) and ranks system. To obtain a rank on a map, players need to win ten matches. Unlike the rating, MMR is hidden and not displayed in the match selection menu. The main feature of this mode is that each player has their own unique rank on each individual map.

CS2 allows players to choose maps where they feel most comfortable. Such a ranking system allows players to avoid situations where they have to play on unfamiliar maps. The system determines the player's rank on each map based on their skill level, allowing users with similar skills to compete with each other and avoid maps they are not confident in.

How to increase your rank in CS2?

The exact number of victories required to increase the rank in CS2 depends on the results of previous matches and the total number of wins and losses. On average, it takes 3-5 wins to increase the rank, but sometimes this number can be 6-8 wins. Your individual statistics also influence rank increase, so you always need to try your best.

All ranks in CS2

Based on the above, you can still find familiar ranks from CS:GO in CS2, but this is no longer the main matchmaking of the game. The competitive mode includes eighteen ranks:

  • Silver 1
  • Silver 2
  • Silver 3
  • Silver 4
  • Gold Nova 1
  • Gold Nova 2
  • Gold Nova 3
  • Master Guardian 1
  • Master Guardian 2
  • Distinguished Master Guardian
  • Legendary Eagle
  • Legendary Eagle Master
  • Supreme Master First Class
  • Global Elite

Rating in CS2

In Premier CS2 mode, there is a general rating for all maps. It is similar to a tournament system and uses numbers (ELO) to denote players' positions in leaderboards. By the way, a similar system exists on the FACEIT platform. If you win a match, your rating will increase, but if you lose, it will decrease. Unlike the competitive mode, the Premier mode allows you to see your position in the rating thanks to an open leaderboard.

To get your first rating, each player must calibrate in Premier mode. To do this, you need to buy Prime status and win ten matches in this mode. After that, you will be assigned an ELO rating. You can find your rating on the Premier mode page.

Premier uses a map pick and ban system, similar to professional matches. Players take turns banning maps they don't want to play on. After the ban phase, they choose which side to play on: CT or T. The match then begins.
