Remember when everyone wrote off The MongolZ after they benched Azbayar "Senzu" Munkhbold? Well, they're back, and they're not just scraping by - they're legitimately competing with the best teams in the world again.
From Last Place to Top Four
At IEM Krakow 2026, The MongolZ finished in dead last place without winning a single match. It was a complete disaster, and people genuinely questioned whether they could survive without Senzu leading the charge.
Fast forward to PGL Cluj-Napoca 2026, and they just placed fourth while beating some massive names along the way. Anarbileg "cobrazera" Uuganbayar, their new player, isn't just filling Senzu's shoes - he's making people completely forget about the old roster.
Group Stage Dominance
Cobrazera was absolutely insane during the group stage, showing up when it mattered most and helping the team advance with real confidence. This was genuinely shocking because nobody expected them to bounce back this fast after their Krakow disaster.
The FURIA Upset
Then came the playoffs, where The MongolZ faced FURIA - one of the strongest teams in CS2 right now. Everyone expected FURIA to roll over them without much resistance.
Instead, The MongolZ came out swinging and dominated all three first halves with a 9:3 scoreline. They were doing this against FURIA, one of the best teams on the scene right now.
They absolutely destroyed them 13-3 on Mirage, dropped Dust2, then closed it out on Nuke to take the series. Cobrazera was named MVP of the match after completely taking over when his team needed him most.
Vitality eventually stopped their run in the semifinals with a 2-0 victory. The MongolZ put up a serious fight on Mirage again, but Vitality is simply too strong right now for most teams to handle. They then lost the bronze match to MOUZ 2-0, with only Inferno being remotely close.
The Map Pool is Solid
The MongolZ have clearly found their identity and know what maps they can win on. Mirage is their best map by far, sitting at 5 wins and 3 losses with this roster, and they're legitimately dangerous when it gets picked. Nuke has become their other secret weapon, with the team currently on a three-game win streak after beating B8, NAVI, and FURIA on it. Those are quality opponents, and the consistency is impressive.
Dust2 and Inferno still need some serious work because they're not consistent on those maps yet. But Ancient looks solid enough, and Overpass could go either way depending on the opponent and how they prepare.
Individual Performances Stepping Up
Cobrazera absolutely deserves all the praise he's getting right now. His PGL Cluj-Napoca performance proved beyond doubt that he belongs at this level, and he's taking on Senzu's responsibilities without crumbling under the massive pressure.
Usukhbayar "910" Banzragch has been incredibly reliable throughout the entire year, playing like one of the best CT-side players who competed at this tournament. His consistency is what keeps this team stable when things get chaotic.
Ayush "mzinho" Batbold is also starting to add more firepower to the lineup, growing into his role and giving the team another legitimate weapon they can rely on. The team chemistry is coming together faster than anyone could have reasonably expected.

The Valve Ranking Boost
This fourth-place finish wasn't just about pride or proving doubters wrong - it had massive implications for their future. The MongolZ earned a huge amount of Valve ranking points from this performance.
They gained 170 points, which was more than any other team at the entire tournament. That's absolutely massive for their trajectory. They climbed 11 spots in the rankings and got back into the top 10 after looking completely dead.
What's Next?
The MongolZ have proven they can legitimately hang with elite competition at the highest level. They took maps off Vitality twice, beat FURIA convincingly in a Bo3, and they're winning crucial maps against top opponents consistently. Cobrazera is proving to be the real deal as a player. 910 continues to be rock solid in every match. Mzinho is steadily improving and adding more impact. All the pieces are falling into place nicely.
Sure, they still need to clean up their performances on Dust2 and Inferno, and they're definitely not championship contenders quite yet. But they're trending in the right direction extremely fast. Just a month ago, people genuinely thought The MongolZ might completely fall apart without Senzu. Now they're a top-10 team confidently taking down tournament favorites.
