As you progress through Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you gain access to better armor and weapons. At the start of the game, your choices are limited to simple clothing and hose, but eventually, you can wear full plate armor, significantly enhancing your battle protection. However, before you put on metal leg armor, you first need to equip padded foot protection.
What is padded foot protection?
If you try to wear plate leg armor without the proper underlayer, the game won't allow it and will notify you that you need to get padded foot protection first. This underlayer is crucial because metal armor cannot be worn directly over bare skin or regular clothing.

The most common and convenient option is Padded Chausses. This special padded clothing is worn under plate leg armor, ensuring comfort and proper fitting of the armor. Though the game calls it "padded foot protection", it's actually more important for leg protection. The padded layer helps cushion impacts and prevents chafing from the heavy armor.

Where to find padded foot protection?
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, there are several ways to obtain Padded Chausses, but the most reliable are purchasing them from tailors or taking them from defeated enemies.
Purchasing from Tailors
The simplest and most reliable way to get Padded Chausses is to buy them from a tailor. In the early regions of the game, this clothing is rare, but in Kuttenberg, where plate armor becomes available, it appears for sale. The best place to buy is the tailor in the center of Kuttenberg, who always has Padded Chausses in stock.
Expect a price range of 150-170 Groschen. If you are good at bargaining, you might lower the cost and save money.

Taking from Enemies
Another way to obtain Padded Chausses is to take them from guards and soldiers who wear plate leg armor. These enemies usually have padded clothing under their armor. If you defeat them in battle, you can take their equipment, including the Chausses.
However, be cautious when searching bodies in crowded places. If you're caught stealing, it can cause problems. If you choose this method, make sure there are no witnesses nearby before looting a dead enemy.

Tips for obtaining and using padded foot protection
Since you cannot equip plate leg armor without first having padded protection, it's worth securing Padded Chausses in advance. If you plan to buy the best ones, accumulate enough money before reaching Kuttenberg to purchase them immediately. If you want to acquire them through combat, look for well-equipped soldiers and be prepared for a fight.
Once you have the Padded Chausses, make sure to wear them before attempting to equip plate leg armor. This will save you from unnecessary trouble and allow you to use better protection right away.
