A Fantastic Day for Brazilian Counter-Strike at the Shanghai Major. But What Comes Next?

Today marked the end of the third day of the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024: Opening Stage, where Brazilian teams performed well, making it a great day for the Brazilian CS scene. Two out of three teams advanced to the Elimination Stage, while one will play tomorrow for another slot. In this article, we will discuss the status of Brazilian teams at the major in China.

FURIA vs. BIG

The first map was Nuke, chosen by FURIA, where they struggled in the first half on the offense, ending it with a score of 9:3. In the second half, they couldn't regroup and unfortunately lost the first map 5:13. On Mirage, chosen by BIG, FURIA managed to give a very solid response, ending the first half with a dominant score of 10-2. In the second half, BIG made a strong comeback, taking 9 rounds, but FURIA gathered themselves in time and secured the game by a slim margin with a score of 13-11.

The decisive map was Dust2, which BIG have played well since the CS:GO era. However, despite their historical dominance, the first half ended disastrously for them 9:3. This time, FURIA closed the map easily with a score of 13:3 and proceeded to the Elimination Stage.

PaiN vs. FlyQuest

The first map was Vertigo, chosen by paiN, where the first half ended evenly with a score of 6:6, which was quite unpredictable. The second half continued to be tense and also ended 6:6. Eventually, the teams went into overtime. In the additional rounds, paiN managed to edge out their opponent and took the map with a score of 16:14.

The second map was Inferno, where paiN looked much better and were able to win the first half with a score of 7:5. In the second half, they simply carried the map to its logical conclusion, winning 6 rounds, and thus ended the game with a score of 13:6. Following FURIA, paiN advanced to the Elimination Stage.

A Perfect Day for Brazilian CS?

Today, two teams from Brazil reached the Elimination Stage. Based on these results, the American region is closer than ever to increasing slots in the next major. In addition to two teams advancing to the Elimination Stage, MIBR defeated Rare Atom 2:1 and proceeded to the next stage of the Shanghai Major. The match MIBR vs. FlyQuest is scheduled for 08:00 EET.

Today, all three Brazilian teams played very well, but the Elimination Stage will not be easy for them, as the teams there will be much stronger, more tactically prepared, and with individually stronger players. The main question is whether the current form of at least one of the three teams will be enough to make it to the playoffs of this coveted tournament.

The main feature of Brazilian CS is playing for the audience; Brazilian teams, when playing in home arenas, receive an incredible boost of energy and play like gods. Perhaps the idea with hieroglyphs on stickers from FalleN, skullz, and KSCERATO was to have Chinese fans support the team more than their opponents. Thus, the audience will help them win.
