Rellana Twin Moon Knight, presents an interesting and unique challenge in the Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, starkly contrasting with the battles you faced in Belurat. Swift and ruthless, Rellana employs brutal, nearly unbreakable combos, strong defenses, and deadly magic, but has one significant weakness.
Our Rellana Twin Moon Knight boss guide in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree offers detailed strategies for defeating Rellana, highlighting her vulnerabilities and the best ways to prepare for this tough fight with her.
Where is Rellana Twin Moon Knight
In the DLC, Rellana awaits the player in the Ensis Moongazing Grounds, located at the eastern edge of Castle Ensis. She is a mandatory boss and cannot be missed if you are heading to Scadu Altus via this route, unless you choose to bypass Castle Ensis via the longer path through the Ellac River.
Conveniently, there is a site of grace near her arena, and you can summon two NPC allies: Dryleaf Dane and Needle Knight Leda. However, remember that each ally you summon increases the boss’s health. Having both allies at hand can ensure they distract the boss while you get familiar with Rellana’s combat style by observing how she deals with your allies.
Weapons for the Battle with Rellana
Selecting the optimal weapon against Rellana requires experimentation. Heavy weapons can deal significant damage, but due to Rellana’s quick movements and her ability to dodge easily, they are difficult to hit with.
Even with a katana, landing more than two consecutive hits can be challenging. Using straight swords or light greatswords allows for a few hits and quick retreat during Rellana’s recovery period. The Miledy weapon, found near Miquella’s Cross close to the Castle Ensis checkpoint, is particularly effective in this fight.
Rellana Twin Moon Knight Weakness
For those using a magic build, it is recommended to use melee weapons that scale with intelligence or faith. Note that spells are largely ineffective due to Rellana's high magic resistance. However, magic can still play a role, especially considering her susceptibility to Frostbite.
She is also weak to lightning, though building a lightning setup might be more challenging if you do not already have one. The Frozen Lightning Spear exploits both her weaknesses, but Rellana’s tendency to dodge sideways often puts her out of the spell’s reach. This spell works best when Rellana is focused on an NPC or your Spirit Ash.
An easier way to inflict Frostbite is using the Glintstone Icecrag, which has high Frostbite scaling and tracks the target, unlike Ranni’s Dark Moon. With a low intelligence requirement of 15, even strength or dexterity builds can use this spell.
Although the Icecrag itself does not deal much damage, it triggers the Frostbite status after four or five hits, causing significant damage and increasing Rellana’s vulnerability to magic and strikes for about 15–20 seconds. You can also simply apply Freezing Grease to your weapon, though the Frostbite buildup occurs more slowly if you cannot land several hits in a row.
To know that Frostbite has taken effect, look for a frosty cloud around Rellana. If your Spirit Ash is aggressive enough to attract the boss's attention, the Frostbite effect alone might be enough to gradually wear her down.
However, it is better to take advantage of the Frostbite effect by landing weapon hits while it lasts. Ensure that your weapon and Spirit Ash are upgraded to the highest level. If you lack Smithing Stones or Glovewort, return to the Lands Between to gather Bell Bearings for the Maiden Husks.

Rellana Twin Moon Knight Combat Style
Rellana’s combat style is characterized by fast, fluid attacks and complex combos. She often switches attacks mid-combo, sometimes delivering a powerful, unexpected strike. If you fail to kill Rellana after several attempts, consider recording your gameplay and reviewing it to study her moves and prepare for the next attempt.
How to beat Rellana Twin Moon Knight — Phase 1
In the first phase of the boss fight, Rellana’s combos mainly consist of three parts: an initial strike (usually one hit with one of her swords), a follow-up hit with the other sword (which could be an upward or overhead strike, possibly repeated several times), and a strong finishing move where she crosses both swords before delivering a powerful thrust.
Rellana can seamlessly change her attacks and targets. Despite this, all her attacks are forward-facing, so dodging forward is the most effective way to avoid damage.
Rellana also pivots quickly, leaving little time for a break after dodging. Her additional attacks include a strong thrust followed by another thrust or a hit with the other sword, summoning Carian swords that fly at you after a few seconds, and sometimes releasing an arc of magical energy. You have to dodge forward or to the side when her hand and sword glow blue to avoid these attacks.
Rellana Twin Moon Knight trickiest move involves a wide 270-degree strike when you attempt a strong attack or elaborate weapon skill, often followed by an overhead strike. This move renders your technique ineffective and deals significant damage. Continue using normal attacks when facing Rellana and reserve more complex maneuvers for moments when she is distracted.
Eventually, Rellana Twin Moon Knight will summon a large Carian sword and perform a vertical strike, followed a second later by a horizontal sweep. Dodging sideways can avoid the vertical strike, while dodging forward can evade the horizontal sweep. Failing to time your dodge correctly can result in serious damage.
How to beat Rellana Twin Moon Knight — Phase 2
In the second phase, when Rellana’s health drops to about half, summon your Spirit Ash if you have not already done so. Rellana will pause, igniting her right sword with magic and her left with fire. She may follow this with either a firestorm spreading diagonally around her or a series of sword strikes that deal fire damage. Avoid standing on the fire spots before they erupt, and dodge the sword strikes as needed.
Her basic attack combos remain unchanged, but now they deal additional magic and fire damage. New moves include stronger sword summons (similar to the Greatblade Phalanx), more aggressive Carian sword strikes, and occasionally thrusting both swords to create a fire tunnel. Dodge sideways to avoid the tunnel and use the brief animation completion time to land a few hits.
When Rellana’s health reaches about a third, she may leap into the air and summon two moons, you need to understand how to dodge Rellana moon attack. The first moon crashes to the ground, creating a magical shockwave, followed by the second moon, and then Rellana herself with an even larger magical wave.
These rapid attacks are hard to dodge, and getting hit by all three projectiles (or even just Rellana’s final descent) can be fatal. The best dodge tactic is jumping on the spot when the moons hit the ground, or quickly retreating to the edge of the room if you can manage it.
Conclusion
With persistence and the right strategy, you can avoid these final strikes and eventually defeat Rellana Twin Moon Knight. Defeating her rewards you with the Rellana Remembrance, which can be exchanged at Enia in Roundtable Hold for Rellana’s Glintblade Swords or her twin moon sorcery.
The battle with Rellana in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC requires patience, the right approach, and several attempts, but ultimately it should lead to success for you.
