How to download and watch your own DEMO from matchmaking in CS2?

Watching your own matches is a great way to improve in Counter-Strike 2. It helps you see mistakes, understand how you play, and learn what you can do better. In this simple guide, we’ll show you step by step how to download and watch your own CS2 matchmaking demo.

Step 1: Go to your match history

  1. Open Steam and log in to your account.
  2. In the top menu, click on your profile picture.
  3. Go to the “Games” tab.
  4. Click on Counter-Strike 2 in the list of games.
  5. Choose “Watch matches and tournaments” to see your match history.

Step 2: Download your demo

Step 3: Extract the file

  1. Use a program like WinRAR or 7-Zip to unzip the file.
  2. Place the .dem file into this folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\game\csgo

Note: Even though the game is CS2, the folder name is still csgo for now. Don’t worry, it’s normal.

Step 4: Launch CS2 and watch the demo

  1. Open CS2.
  2. Press the ~ key (tilde) to open the console. If the console doesn’t open, check your game settings to enable it.
  3. Type this command in the console: playdemo filename Replace filename with the name of your demo file (without .dem).
  4. Press Enter. The demo will load.
  5. Then type this command: demouiThis will open a small control panel. You can use it to pause, rewind, skip rounds, and move the camera around.

Extra tips:

  • You can slow down or speed up the demo using the demoui bar.
  • Use the thirdperson command to see your model from behind.
  • Try watching the demo from your teammates' or enemies’ view to learn even more.
  • Take notes while watching. Write down things you want to improve.

Why watching your demos matters

Studying your own gameplay is one of the best ways to improve in CS2. It’s what pros do all the time. You can:

  • See why you lost a round.
  • Learn how enemies play and how they push sites.
  • Improve your positioning and utility usage.
  • Catch bad habits like re-peeking too often or bad crosshair placement.

Now that you know how to download and watch your matchmaking demos in CS2, take some time each week to review your games. You’ll notice your progress much faster if you watch your own mistakes and learn from them.
