Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is a wonderful continuation of the original game with a wealth of interesting mechanics and a rather challenging combat system, which may not appeal to everyone. Adapting to it requires time, patience, and perseverance.
At the beginning of the game, you will be taught the basic combat techniques: sword slashing, blocking, counterattacks, etc. But even so, the difficulties in combat will not disappear. The first test will be a friendly duel with Hans, allowing you to see how well you've absorbed your training.
However, problems may arise here as you find yourself fighting the lord for a long time, yet the battle does not conclude. Doubts begin to creep in about whether you're doing everything correctly.
How to Defeat Hans in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
Initially, as part of the 'Easy Riders' quest, Hans will guide you through several training stages on sword-handling techniques to teach you how to slash, block enemy blows, counterattack, etc. Once you've learned these basic moves, you'll move on to the final duel stage, where you'll spar with the lord using wooden swords.
Since this is the first and training fight, you won’t have any additional or stronger equipment to help defeat Hans. You'll have to do everything with the offered set of armor and wooden sword. To master the basic training stages, we remind you of them.
Tips and Reminders About the Combat System in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
By moving the camera, you select the direction of the sword’s swing and strike. The marker for this will be a red color at the intersection in front of you. If you want to strike left, move the camera to the left until the marker is at the desired crosshair position. To strike, press the LMB or the corresponding gamepad control button.
After making several strikes in a row (up to 4 slashes), you perform a sequence that allows you to disorient the opponent in battle and strike them in areas where damage can be inflicted. For this, choose the opposite side from where the enemy’s weapon is positioned. For example, if the enemy’s sword is on the left, hit the right, the unprotected side, as it will be harder for the enemy to block there.
Pressing the RMB performs a block that protects you from an enemy's strike. This is the opposite of the attack: you need to position the pointer marker to block the side the duelist is attacking. If trying to be hit from the right, you need to block that side.
You have the opportunity to perform a perfect block. To do this, press the defense button when a green shield appears in the center of the intersection. Then comes the counterattack. After executing a perfect block, a blue sword icon will appear in the center. Attacking at this moment will execute a counterattack. By defending against an enemy's strike, you perform your own, inflicting damage on the opponent.
Duel with Hans in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
After several training activities, you will move on to a duel where you can win or lose. Overall, this does not affect anything. However, by defeating Hans, you will earn the achievement ‘Déjà Vu.’
The duel with the lord will test the moves you’ve learned, as well as your patience and endurance. The issue is that this duel is quite prolonged. Even after landing several successful blows, the fight doesn't end. Under ideal circumstances and pace, it will last 4-5 minutes.
Your goal is to last as long as possible without taking too many hits. Constantly block enemy attacks and perform counterattacks to inflict damage on Hans. Note that neither you nor your opponent will have any indicator showing who is winning the duel. Health indicators on the information panel will not decrease. Everything will be intuitive.
All you need to do is:
- Block strikes and perform counterattacks to deal damage to the opponent (watch for the green shield marker and blue swords).
- Control your stamina: retreat when it's low and avoid unnecessary slashes.
- Execute consecutive swings to target the opponent's vulnerable areas and strike them.
During the fight, you may receive a dialog box to surrender. Simply ignore this message so as not to end the fight prematurely, as this would result in a loss. You can shout battle cries. It's unclear whether they truly affect morale in combat or are just an option, but it adds interesting interactivity.
Once you withstand Hans in battle, you will complete the task and earn the achievement ‘Déjà Vu,’ a reference to the first part of the game where you also fought the lord with swords.
