The crown was not too heavy for one squad, and that was the defending champions T1 who won a thrilling five-game series against the LPL's Bilibili Gaming. This victory meant T1, and Faker in particular won an unprecedented five World Championships. This also marked the second time the organization had won the event in consecutive years, but this wasn't the only record that had been set yesterday.
T1 set a unique record after their fifth world title win, their most recent triumph meant they have won the World Championship from every seed possible. From the fourth seed all the way to the first, no team has ever done that. In fact, no other team in League of Legends history has won the World Championships more than once.
The kings retained their crown
There is something truly special about T1 and the League of Legends World Championship. No matter how good the opposition is playing, the Korean org finds a way to pull through against all odds to walk away with the Summoners Cup. They can be compared to Real Madrid in Soccer, a team that isn't always firing on all cylinders domestically, but once that Champions League music hits, you know you're up against a team that will not go down at any cost.
This is the same sentiment that can be felt for Faker and T1. For ten years, this young man has found ways to reinvent himself and catapult his team into championship glory. Faker arguably had two of the best performances of his entire career in games four and five, when his T1 squad was facing defeat in two do-or-die matches, where BLG was poised to take the Summoners Cup back to China.
Here are the times T1 has won Worlds and which seed they did it from:
- Worlds 2013 - Third seed
- Worlds 2015 - First seed
- Worlds 2016 - Second seed
- Worlds 2023 - Second seed
- Worlds 2024 - Fourth seed
