Paper Rex and Sentinels secured victories in their debut matches of the Masters Toronto 2025 playoffs, defeating G2 Esports and XLG Esports respectively. With these wins, both teams advanced to the next round of the upper bracket, while the losing sides dropped to the lower bracket, where there's no room left for error.
G2 Esports vs. Paper Rex
A match that ruined many Pick’ems, as few expected Paper Rex to sweep G2 Esports — one of the tournament favorites — with a 2-0 scoreline. The Indonesian squad pulled off an incredible comeback on Split, turning a 5:9 deficit into a 13:10 win. The second map, Lotus, was a close contest, but Paper Rex once again came out on top — sealing the series 2-0. Despite the loss, the MVP title went to Trent “trent” Cairns from G2, who, playing as an Initiator, recorded the most kills in the match (39 across two maps) and posted an average ACS of 231. Detailed match statistics can be found here.

Sentinels vs. XLG Esports
Sentinels made short work of China’s top team, XLG Esports, defeating them 2-0 (Sunset 13:6, Lotus 13:6). The win propels Sentinels into the next playoff round, where they’ll face Paper Rex. XLG Esports, meanwhile, drop to the lower bracket to meet G2 Esports — a match that could mark the end of the road for one of them. Detailed match statistics can be found here.
