Controller is one of the most important roles in Valorant because it allows the team to both effectively attack sites and cover the team, as well as defend them by blocking the attacking side’s vision. However, players often do not pay attention to which specific character should be picked on a particular map. So today we will tell you about the features of each agent and which of them performs better on different locations.
All controllers in Valorant
As of the time of writing, Valorant has 7 agents in this role, who, although they share the common smoke mechanic, differ from one another in terms of gameplay. For example, Omen has only 2 smokes with a shorter duration, but he can teleport, while Brimstone has 3 smokes that last longer, but in return the agent has no other unusual mechanics:
- Brimstone – 3 smoke charges
- Viper – 1 smoke charge + wall
- Omen – 2 smoke charges
- Astra – 2 smoke charges
- Harbor – 1 smoke charge + wall
- Clove – 2 smoke charges
- Miks – 2 smoke charges
In addition, all agents have different smoke durations, and to make it easier for you to learn and remember them, we have created a video in which we clearly show the duration of all seven controllers in Valorant.

Which controller is best suited for different maps
There are currently 12 different maps in Valorant, which differ in design and textures. Although, in general, any controller will be useful on each of them, and you can play the character you like. But for the best efficiency, you need to take into account the features of the map and the agent. Therefore, below we will tell you which agent will be the best on each of them.
Ascent
The map has many corners and boxes, so Omen will be the best choice here. Although he has only two smoke charges, this will be enough on Ascent, because both sites do not have many entrances. In addition, his mobility and teleport will be a big advantage, thanks to which right after using smokes you can aggressively teleport into them, as shown in the screenshot below.

His teleport will also be useful not only when entering a site, but also on the defense side. Thanks to it, you can take unusual positions where the enemy will not expect you, as shown in the images.
In addition, the fact that Ascent is a small and corridor-based map plays a major role, so thanks to teleports, Omen can easily flank opponents and get behind them.
Breeze
Breeze is one of the largest maps in Valorant, and both Spike plant sites also have many entrances and vertical covers. Considering these features, the best agents on this map will be controllers with smokes and walls, such as Harbor and Viper.

Using a smoke wall, you can block off half of the plant site and even vertical covers, which will allow your team to easily enter the site and plant the Spike.

On defense, these agents will also be useful because you can place walls in such a way that you can hide behind them in corners. And considering the large size of the map, Viper’s ultimate can win you the round, because after it is deployed, enemies may simply not have time to rotate and will be forced to enter the smoke.

Lotus
A good choice on Lotus will be the new agent Miks. His smokes have one of the longest durations and last 19 seconds, which compensates for having only two charges and a relatively short use range.

In addition, another advantage of the agent on this map is his ultimate and the automatic doors on Lotus. The thing is that when the doors are used, all enemies will hear the sound and will have information about your movement. Miks’s ultimate – Bassquake – pushes back and deafens enemies, which means they will not hear any sounds for some time. Thanks to this, you can quickly attack through the doors, or simply rotate without revealing your location.

Split
On this map, Omen will again be the best choice. The small number of entrances allows you to control them with just two smokes. And the large number of vertical covers will allow you to take unexpected positions.

Omen has been one of the strongest controllers for several seasons in a row thanks to his mobility. Therefore, the agent is suitable for most maps in Valorant, which is why he is also picked very often on the professional scene.

Pearl
On Pearl, Astra will be a good choice because of her ability to place smokes anywhere on the map. This will be especially useful on this location due to its large size and confusing mid, which often makes rotations quite difficult.

In general, Astra is a universal smoker who can be picked on any location. But the main problem is that the agent is quite difficult, especially for beginners. You need to react quickly and constantly switch to her ultimate form. Therefore, we recommend learning this agent before picking her in ranked matches.
Haven
The best controller choice on Haven will be Brimstone because of the location’s feature with three sites. Although the agent has a limited range and cannot, without rotating, throw smokes from A to C and vice versa, he has three skill charges. This is especially useful when you have used one of them, but your team failed to enter the plant site and needs to rotate. After that, you will still have two smokes left and can use them on another plant site.

Brimstone also has very useful other skills. Stim Beacon will allow your team to move faster when entering a site or rotating. The Incendiary molotov grenade will allow you to protect the Spike or clear corners, and the Orbital Strike ultimate will be useful both on attack to zone enemies and on defense. But, as mentioned above, Brimstone has a rather small smoke range, so he cannot be effective on some large maps.
Fracture
One of the most difficult maps in Valorant because of its unusual design and additional elements such as ziplines, vertical and underground levels, and automatic doors. The best choice on Fracture will be Harbor because of his controllable smoke wall. With it, when entering a site, you can block off most of the plant site, and close the last entrance with a single targeted smoke.

It should be noted that other controllers can also be used on this map. Brimstone, with three smoke charges, will also be able to almost completely block all entrances, or Viper, who also has a wall. But Harbor will be the most effective, and he can also perform well on the defense side.

Abyss
Because of the feature of the Abyss map, namely the absence of textures that separate the location from falling off, two agents will perform well here. The first is again Omen, who can teleport behind enemies, and his ultimate – From the Shadows – will allow you to save yourself from falling if you press it in time.

The second agent who will perform well is the new controller Miks. His ultimate Bassquake not only deafens but also pushes enemies back. And precisely because of the absence of textures, you can simply knock opponents off the map if you correctly calculate the timing and distance to them.
Bind
On the Bind map, Clove and Brimstone will perform well. Although Clove is much weaker than before after the latest nerfs, and smokes after death last only 4 seconds, because of the portals on Bind the agent can still perform well. You can throw the Meddle skill into a portal, and all enemies inside will receive a health debuff.

Brimstone, in turn, can do the same thanks to the Incendiary grenade, or even the Orbital Strike ultimate, so enemies who entered the portal will not be able to hide there.
Corrode

Corrode, like Fracture, has many entrances and vertical levels, so Harbor will also be the best choice here. With a single High Tide skill, the agent can completely block off the entire B site. Also, thanks to the single smoke Cove and the ability to make it bulletproof, the agent will also perform effectively on the defense side.
Icebox

Because of the openness of both plant sites on Icebox, Viper will be the best choice on it. You can activate her smokes and wall at any moment, and unlike other controllers, the skills will not disappear over time, but are limited only by the Fuel charge. In addition, her ultimate will be especially useful, as it can completely cover the site.
Sunset

The last map is Sunset, and on it Omen will again be the most effective. Because of the large number of boxes and vertical positions, he can perform well thanks to his teleport. On attack, you can effectively teleport and move around the map to unexpectedly appear near an opponent. And on defense, the large number of boxes allows you to change positions every round, and enemies cannot guess where you will be this time.
