Amaru is an attacker operator in Rainbow Six Siege who was introduced in 2019 during Operation Ember Rise, alongside Goyo. She comes from Peru, the city of Callao. In this guide, we will cover Amaru’s biography, abilities, loadout, gameplay strategies, and other unique aspects of Amaru R6.
Biography and Origin
Amaru’s real name is Azucena Quispe, a former anthropologist and archaeologist who dedicated her life to preserving her people’s cultural heritage. After years of research, she became an activist and anti-corruption fighter, using her knowledge and determination in the struggle. Amaru R6 nationality is Peruvian.
She is an experienced climber and expert in moving through complex terrain. This experience became the foundation of her main unique ability in the game.
Playstyle and Abilities of Amaru
Amaru’s signature ability is the Garra Hook. This special grappling hook allows her to quickly fly into windows, balconies, and ascend through open hatches. She is one of the few who can climb up through hatches from below, creating an unexpected threat for defenders.
Key features of Amaru Garra Hook:
- Instant entry through windows and balconies — allows her to enter buildings faster than other operators.
- Hatch climbing — a unique mechanic that opens new rotation possibilities.
- Drawbacks: after landing, Amaru has a short animation where she is vulnerable. Without team support or prior intel, using the Garra Hook may result in failure.

Strategies for Playing Amaru
- Surprise entry: use the Garra Hook for quick window entries or balcony climbs. Do this when teammates distract defenders or after confirming the spot is clear, since she is vulnerable during the landing animation.
- Vertical pressure: use the Garra Hook to climb hatches. Players rarely expect attackers to come from below, making this tactic highly effective.
- Aggression: maintain an aggressive style, taking positions quickly with the hook while your team covers or distracts enemies.
- Be versatile: Amaru has a balanced arsenal, so adapt to the map and opponents. Sometimes it’s worth using the Supernova (Amaru shotgun) with flashbangs to quickly neutralize enemies.

Skins
Unlike some other operators, Amaru has only one cosmetic set — the Amaru Explorer Bundle, which costs 1,200 R6 Credits or 50,000 Renown for the full pack. Unfortunately, Amaru elite skin does not exist.

Is Amaru Good in R6 in 2025?
Amaru is a niche operator. She isn’t as versatile as Ash or Zofia, and even in skilled hands it’s unlikely she can single-handedly turn the game for her team. However, that doesn’t mean she’s useless. If you enjoy her unique ability and know how to use it effectively, you can still succeed in ranked matches.
