Valve continues to improve animations in CS2 with a new update

A small update for the beta version of Counter-Strike 2 has been released, focused exclusively on technical and visual improvements. It does not directly change gameplay, but fixes a number of issues and refines character animations.

The main focus of the update is improvements to the ANIMGRAPH 2 animation system. According to the patch notes, Valve developers introduced several targeted changes that affect the visual aspect of the game and the smoothness of character actions:

  • Fixed an issue with the viewmodel and world model when throwing a high-explosive grenade
  • Adjusted foot inverse kinematics in the idle state
  • Minor improvements to turning animation during landing
  • Fixed a bug with fast weapon switching while holding the inspect button
  • Additional minor adjustments to character model animations
  • Changed the head tilt angle in the counter-strafe animation

Although the update looks minimal, it is part of the gradual improvement of the game’s technical foundation. Valve traditionally introduces such changes ahead of larger updates.

As a reminder, in one of the previous Counter-Strike 2 updates, developers had already introduced technical fixes and UI optimizations, including changes to the in-game news system. That update was released on April 3 more details here, confirming Valve’s approach of gradually preparing the game client for more major changes in the future.
