After Team Vitality's triumphant victory over FaZe Clan in the Starladder Budapest Major final, we spoke with the French team's star player, Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut. The Frenchman was once again a key figure in the decisive match. In an exclusive interview with Bo3.gg, he talked about his feelings after the final, Vitality's team chemistry in the best-of-five series against FaZe, and the importance of mental resilience. In addition, the Frenchman shared his thoughts on motivation after numerous trophies, the pressure of a possible second major in a year, and what really matters most to him outside of the server.
You’ve now reached another Major final and once again played a decisive role. Do you feel like this is your peak form, or can you still get better?
I can always be better. Even in this semifinal or the final, I didn’t play my best CS. So no, this isn’t my peak or my prime. I always want to feel like I can improve — that’s the right mindset for me.
What was the most memorable moment from this match for you?
I would say the entire best-of-five series. Especially after Nuke — the way we played together as a team, our communication, the trust. On Overpass, especially, it felt like everyone was on point. ropz was often alone, getting two or three kills, and we already knew the round was basically over. Every map felt good for us.

🔹 Vitality’s biggest strength in the BO5 vs FaZe was mental stability and team trust, especially on Overpass

You said this isn’t your prime yet. Do you think Vitality as a team is in its prime right now?
Not really. At this Major, I wouldn’t say we were at our peak. We had moments where we didn’t play well as a team, where things didn’t click perfectly. There’s still room to improve — tactically and individually. That’s always the case if you want to stay on top.
Vitality can now win matches without relying only on your highlights. Does that make the game mentally easier?
It depends. CS is never easy. Anyone can come back at any moment. We were down 3–6 against Spirit and still managed to come back. For us, it’s all about mentality. We have a very strong mental game — whether we’re losing 12–0 or winning 12–0, it’s the same mindset. That’s one of our biggest strengths right now.
Did you feel extra pressure trying to win a second Major in the same year?
No, honestly. We weren’t the clear favorites. We were maybe top three, but we didn’t play as well as expected before the Major. So there was no real pressure. Even though back-to-back Majors would be amazing, we didn’t talk about it internally. Every day felt normal — just focusing on playing our best CS.

You’ve won almost everything. What still motivates you?
Competition. I love competing. I love the game. Lifting trophies, seeing my teammates happy, having my family around — that’s what motivates me. Being part of Vitality, sharing these moments with the people close to me — that’s everything.
If you had to rate this season from 1 to 10 — both yourself and the team — what would it be?
Individually, maybe an 8 or 8.5. I can always do better. As a team, I’d say a 9. Not a 10, because we didn’t win everything — but it’s still one of the best seasons ever. Back-to-back Majors in the same year is something very special.
You’ve earned a lot of prize money. Have you thought about what you’ll do with it?
Not really yet. Mostly investments, and taking care of my family and friends. That’s the most important thing for me.
