CS2 Sees Significant Drop in Online Players and New User Numbers

Counter-Strike 2 recorded a decline in player activity in April 2026 — both in peak online numbers and in the number of unique users. Even the long-awaited release of the de_cache map couldn't reverse the negative trend.

Decline in Online Activity

Compared to March, peak online numbers dropped by more than 149,000 players:

  • March 2026: 1,722,141
  • April 2026: 1,573,122
  • Difference: -149,019 (-8.7%)

Decrease in Player Numbers

There was also a decline in the game's unique audience:

  • March 2026: 32,656,431
  • April 2026: 31,361,348
  • Difference: -1,295,083

de_cache Didn't Change the Situation

One of the factors expected to boost interest in the game was the release of de_cache. However, even the return of the classic map couldn't offset the overall decline in activity.

Players continue to note that content updates have yet to provide a long-term effect on audience retention.

 Context of Recent Months

The online dynamics in CS2 have recently appeared unstable: after peaks at the beginning of the year, the game periodically loses its audience, despite major updates and seasonal changes.

CS2 remains one of the most popular games in the world, but the April figures confirm that maintaining stable online numbers remains a challenge even after content updates.
