The iconic CS:GO is once again available on Steam. A separate page for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has appeared on the service, and the game now exists as an independent application. This is the same build that was previously available as the csgo_legacy add-on for Counter-Strike 2. Essentially, Valve has simply released the old version of the game as a separate client.
Legacy Build
It can be downloaded directly through the Steam client. However, at the publisher's request, the product no longer appears in the store or search results—the page is only accessible via a direct link.
Why was CS:GO released as a separate game?
A probable reason could be the preparation for CS2's transition to a new game coordinator.
Previously, CS:GO Legacy was launched through CS2's launch options. If Valve changes the coordinator, this method could stop working. Creating a separate application for the Legacy version helps avoid technical issues after the update.
It's worth noting that in a previous update, Valve left a comment about CS2's transition to a new game coordinator, but this line was later removed from the update description.

Can you play online?
Official support for CS:GO ended two years ago. Currently:
- The game can be installed and launched.
- There is no support for official matchmaking.
- Only bot play or offline modes are available.
Thus, the return of CS:GO is more of a technical solution and a way to preserve access to a historical version of the game rather than a full-fledged comeback to the esports scene.
Despite this, for many fans, the appearance of a separate Global Offensive page on Steam is a pleasant nostalgic piece of news.
