Dhokla After LYON's MSI 2026 Elimination: "We Pushed One of the Best Teams in the World to Game Five"

LYON's journey at the Mid-Season Invitational 2026 came to an end after a narrow 2:3 defeat against Hanwha Life Esports in the Lower Bracket Final. Following the series, LYON top laner Niship "Dhokla" Doshi reflected on the team's international performance, his own mistakes in the deciding moments, and the progress the roster has made throughout the year.

Despite falling short of a grand final appearance, LYON became one of the biggest surprises of MSI 2026, delivering one of North America's strongest international performances in recent years. The team pushed an LCK first seed to a full five-game series, proving that the region can once again compete against the world's best teams.

LYON entered MSI 2026 looking to prove themselves on the international stage and quickly became one of the tournament's biggest stories. After defeating FURIA in the Bracket Stage, the North American representatives continued their run through the lower bracket, overcoming difficult opponents and earning a chance to fight for a place in the grand final.

However, their run came to an end against Hanwha Life Esports, who secured a 3:2 victory and advanced further in the tournament. LYON finished MSI 2026 in third place, but their performance marked a significant step forward for a region that has struggled to find consistent success internationally.

Dhokla points to Game 4 as the biggest missed opportunity

Following the loss, Dhokla admitted that Game 4 was the moment that stayed on his mind the most. The LYON top laner believed he had a favorable matchup and a chance to create a major advantage for his team but failed to capitalize on it.

Game four is where my mind immediately goes to. We were in a winning position. I had an advantageous matchup, and I wasn't diligent enough in terms of thinking about my level one. I wasn't able to really gain a massive advantage, which in a matchup I thought I could.

  

Dhokla explained that he felt he had the opportunity to carry the game and change the direction of the series.

I was in a position to carry that game.

  

LYON showed that North America can compete internationally

While disappointed with the result, Dhokla emphasized that LYON's MSI 2026 performance was still a major achievement. According to the player, the team demonstrated one of the strongest international showings North America has had in recent years.

I think this is for sure the most competitive NA's looked in a while. It sucks that we came up short, but there is still a lot to take home from this.

  

The top laner highlighted that taking one of the strongest teams in the world to the limit was something the roster could be proud of.

We pushed one of the best teams in the world to Game Five, so we can be proud of that.

  

International experience continues to help LYON improve

Dhokla also reflected on how previous international events, including First Stand, helped LYON prepare for high-pressure matches against elite opponents.

According to him, those experiences allowed the team to better understand what was required to compete at the highest level.

First Stand helped us get a taste of international competition and kind of what we need to do to compete in moments like this.

  

The player added that the lessons from MSI 2026 will help the team continue improving ahead of future tournaments.

We're going to learn from this as well, and hopefully we make it to Worlds and can improve more and overcome this Game Five hurdle.

  

Facing Zeus revealed areas for further improvement

Dhokla also spoke about his matchup against Hanwha Life Esports top laner Zeus, admitting that playing against one of the world's best players showed him areas where he still needs to grow.

Zeus is an extremely talented player, and I still need to level up a bit more to kind of peak out those advantages where I should be.

  

Despite the loss, Dhokla remained satisfied with his overall performance and emphasized that improvement is always possible.

I'm happy with how I played. There's always more to improve on, but I thought we put up a good fight.

After the elimination, the LYON top laner praised his teammates and everyone involved in the team's international run, including the coaching staff and management.

Shout out to my teammates. They played extremely well, and the fact that we had a chance in the series just goes to show how good they are.

  

Dhokla also addressed LYON's supporters, jokingly apologizing for how close the team came to completing the upset.
