Nintendo revealed a complete remake of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time during the Nintendo Switch 2 presentation on June 9 and the company confirmed the game launches later in 2026 for the upcoming console.

First Trailer Reveals Return To Hyrule And New Visual Style
Nintendo officially revealed the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time remake during a dedicated Switch 2 showcase where the debut trailer focused exclusively on the opening story moments rather than actual gameplay footage.
The video includes narration introducing the kingdom of Hyrule and the famous Kokiri Forest where a young boy lacking a fairy companion lives among his peers before transitioning to a sleeping Link while the glowing Triforce symbol materializes on his hand right before the main title appears.

The remake features a completely rebuilt visual presentation even though the developer showed a limited amount of footage. The character model for Link and the overall art direction differ greatly from previous versions of the game because some scenes display a darker and more realistic style closer to older Zelda titles like Twilight Princess rather than recent entries. The trailer also briefly showed fully updated versions of iconic locations including Kokiri Forest and surrounding areas of Hyrule.
Nintendo skipped showcasing combat and exploration and camera systems or targeting mechanics during the live presentation. The initial reveal left these core elements unconfirmed including whether the developers keep the original structure or introduce major changes to the main gameplay systems.

What Nintendo Confirmed So Far And What Comes Next
The developers build the remake exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 and schedule the launch for later in 2026. Confirmed details include a fully remade version of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time featuring a new visual presentation built specifically for Nintendo Switch 2 alongside the return of the original story and updated character models.
Nintendo still needs to announce additional features and gameplay changes or any planned special editions. The company left out confirmation regarding how closely the remake follows the original Nintendo 64 release or whether the developers plan to introduce completely new content and structural changes. Players expect additional information in future presentations ahead of the launch including actual gameplay footage and complete system details.

Nintendo launched The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64 in 1998 to tell the story of Link fighting to stop Ganondorf from stealing the Triforce and controlling Hyrule. Developers introduced standard lock on targeting to build an influential action adventure game that eventually received an updated Nintendo 3DS release in 2011. The newly announced Nintendo Switch 2 project officially serves as the first complete modern remake of the original game.
