Subnautica 2 received its first Early Access roadmap after a strong launch period that pushed the game past 2 million copies sold in 12 hours. Unknown Worlds confirmed upcoming updates will add new regions, vehicles, story chapters, and expanded co-op systems over the coming months.
Quality-of-Life and Co-op Updates Arrive First
Unknown Worlds said the first wave of updates will focus on improving the current version of the game before larger content expansions arrive later during Early Access. The planned 1.1 quality-of-life update includes improvements to the Biomods system, Blight encounters, wreck exploration gameplay, vehicle docking and fabrication, PDA Databank, and the voicelog priority system.

The update adds more passive Biomod slots and a storage cache alongside a new sprint mechanic. The subsequent version update improves cooperative gameplay by introducing voice chat and emotes and player trading and a revive system and customization options while simultaneously upgrading interface signals and the base building tool and the pinned recipe system.

Major Expansion Adds New Regions And Story Content
Unknown Worlds currently develops a massive content expansion that expands the underwater world with new biomes and regions and creatures and resources and tools and a new vehicle along with the next story chapter. The developers balance the gameplay and optimize performance and fix bugs throughout the Early Access period while they adapt the production roadmap based entirely on direct player feedback.

Subnautica 2 sold over two million copies within twelve hours of release and surpassed the peak concurrent player count of the original game on Steam. Unknown Worlds adjusts all future development plans based on community feedback following the exact same approach the studio used for previous games in the underwater franchise.
