The most useful tool in Subnautica 2's mid-game is the Bioscanner․ The Bioscanner unlocks Biomods‚ which are advanced biological upgrades for the player character‚ and allows the player to scan new alien species․ After the player obtains the Bioscanner‚ the game becomes much easier to progress‚ so many players try to get it as soon as possible․
You only start with the Scanner‚ which has limited use even when completely upgraded‚ thus many vital upgrades require the Bioscanner in order to use them․
Where to Find the Bioscanner

The blueprint for the Bioscanner can be found in a wreck zone near the Blackbox Iso Signal. This location is far from the starting pod, roughly 1800 meters away toward the eastern biomes.
How to Unlock the Blueprint
Your next task is to find a way into the wreck․ Since some areas are blocked off‚ you'll need to either crawl through ventilation shafts or damaged corridors․
Inside the wreck is a broken Bioscanner‚ but the regular Scanner is used to scan the wreck․ Once the scan is complete‚ the blueprint will be unlocked in your database․
This will also allow you to craft the Bioscanner at the Modification Station․

Crafting Materials
To craft the Bioscanner, you need:
- 1 Scanner
- 2 Enamelled Glass
- 3 Conduit Crystal
The hardest material to find is usually Conduit Crystal, since it appears in more dangerous biomes and caves.
Also remember that the Bioscanner cannot be crafted in the regular Fabricator. You first need to build a Modification Station.
After obtaining the Bioscanner, you gain access to Biomods — special biological upgrades for your character. These upgrades can provide cold resistance, better stamina, improved oxygen efficiency, and many other useful bonuses.
