From season to season in Fortnite, auxiliary vaults and intriguing caches are often added, allowing players to acquire good items and gear during a match—almost at the beginning of the game. Of course, they are often hard to reach and there are conditions to unlock them, but all this pays off with a ton of good loot. The main thing is to remember that you are not the only player hunting for them.
Similarly, in Chapter 6, Season 3 of Fortnite Super, developers have added Hero Caches, which contain not only regular weapons and consumables but also more interesting gadgets. Want to find out all the locations of Hero Caches and how to unlock them in Fortnite? Then keep reading our article!
Let's start with the fact that Hero Caches can appear anywhere across the Fortnite island map, mostly in marked large Points of Interest (POI). Some spawn locations change from match to match, and it's purely random—so it's all about luck.
However, there are some places where Hero Caches always appear. The most reliable option for finding Hero Caches in Fortnite remains the location of Supernova Academy, specifically its basement Tech Lab. This hidden location in the eastern building contains several rooms with locked doors that open only upon reaching a certain hero rank.
Each such room has a corresponding mark—and if you meet the requirements, you can enter it. Usually, you need to have a certain hero level (C/B/A/S) and pass a time trial.
Inside the basement, Hero Caches await you, along with additional opportunities to acquire loot. In particular, Academy Stands operate here, where you can buy hero items for gold bars.
For now, the Tech Lab at Supernova Academy remains the only guaranteed place to find Hero Caches in Fortnite. However, Epic Games has already hinted that new Tech Labs will appear with updates throughout the season.
Another good option is the location of Utopia City. Here, Hero Caches appear regularly, but without the locked room mechanics like in Supernova Academy. They are often found near rooftops or in the corners of popular buildings.
All other POIs may also randomly contain caches—there's just no guarantee they will definitely be there. Still, keep an eye on the minimap and explore locations in search of these caches with valuable items. After activating Hero Caches, markers may appear on the map to help you find them faster.
Unlike other chests, Hero Caches are not so easy to unlock. For this, you need to have the appropriate hero rank corresponding to the marked cache or doors in the Supernova Academy Tech Lab leading to it.
If you approach a cache and it doesn't open—it means your hero level is insufficient. To increase it, you need to complete various activities during the match—specifically, eliminating other players (this is the fastest option).
If your level is sufficient (you can check it thanks to the mark under the minimap), you can unlock the cache. To do this:
In Fortnite, there are four types of Hero Caches—each corresponding to a certain hero rank. The higher the rank, the better the loot. Such caches allow you to obtain powerful items at different stages of the game, providing you with good equipment to defeat other players and achieve higher positions in the current match.
Hero Cache | Requirement | Description / Reward |
C-level Cache | No conditions | Contains low-level loot: common rarity weapons, consumables, and a small chance to receive a Boon—character enhancement. |
B-level Cache | Reach rank B | Contains rare weapons, better consumables, a high chance of obtaining a Boon, and a possibility of a random hero item. |
A-level Cache | Reach rank A | Provides epic weapons, a guaranteed Boon, and an even higher chance to get a hero item. |
S-level Cache | Reach rank S | Contains legendary weapons, top resources, a guaranteed Boon, and one random hero item. |
