Lelis Discusses Earnings of Tier-1 Dota 2 Team Players

The income levels of professional Dota 2 players in tier-1 teams are shaped not only by fixed salaries but also through a system of bonuses and prize pool shares—this was discussed by esports player Rodrigo "Lelis" Lelis Santos during a public discussion on top organizations' contracts and financial models. According to him, the total income can vary significantly depending on the team's results and the terms of agreements.

Lelis noted that the base salaries for players in top-level teams range from $12,000 to $20,000 per month, although in some cases, this amount can be higher. However, he emphasized that he does not have information on the specific contract terms of star players like Collapse or Yatoro, but pointed out the common practice of bonus payments.

According to Lelis, many organizations include additional payments for successful performances in their contracts. Winning a tournament or achieving certain results automatically triggers bonus clauses in agreements. He cited the results of Team Spirit, which won two tier-1 level tournaments, noting that such achievements imply the presence of numerous bonus conditions in player contracts.

Lelis also discussed the distribution of prize money. Besides the salary, players receive a percentage of the prize pool won, but this share is not evenly divided among the five team members. A portion of the funds goes to the coach, manager, and the organization itself, resulting in each player receiving roughly a sixth or seventh of the total amount. He added that approaches to prize money distribution vary: some organizations take a larger percentage than others.

The topic of salaries and contracts in professional Dota 2 is regularly raised by players and analysts amid the growth of prize pools and the commercialization of esports. In recent years, tier-1 teams have increasingly used complex systems of bonuses and motivational payments, tying player income to results in international tournaments.
